PERSONALITY.
Rory Williams is a loyal, protective, and sarcastic man. His loyalty shone through, especially with Amy but also can be carried through to the Doctor and River Song.

He was timid around the Doctor at first. He was easily intimidated by any authority figure. He cowed under Dr. Ramsden's authority, as seen in The Eleventh Hour. Rory, despite being terrified had the wherewithal to document what he was seeing and help Amy and the Doctor. Traveling with the Doctor was not an easy thing for Rory to handle in the beginning. His jealousy over Amy's attachment to her Raggedy Man was almost more than he could he could handle. How many times could he come in second to the Doctor? Losing Amy on more than one occasion taught him not to take anything for granted. His time with Amy was precious, and he became less timid and more of a warrior, not caring if he had to stand up the Doctor. He would do anything that he could humanly do, and beyond to protect the woman that he loves.

Rory showed both compassion and empathy, which is not always a good thing as it puts him in danger quite often. His first instinct is to help the broken and damaged. He just can't help himself. Rory helps people, and he does not discriminate both as a nurse and a Tardis crew member. He is there to help people acclimate.

He has an overconfidence in coming back from the dead having survived death multiple times. It has been particularly evident in The Angels take Manhattan. He didn't think for one second that he was not going to make it through the time paradox. He had come back so many times why would, this time, be any different.

How wrong he was.

Rory's relationship with Amy is really at the core of who he is and why he behaved as he does. She may be the girl who waited for the Doctor, but Rory is the one that guarded her for 2000 years. He became Rory the Roman, the last Centurion, The boy who waited. He took many heroic measures to save and protect Amy even going so far as punching the doctor when he was an automated soldier and was forced to shoot Amy, the love of his life, his soulmate. His ability to take the Doctor's levity during tragic moments in his life was severely tested. His reflexive behavior is heroic, and he is an expert at masking has feelings for Amy. She even thought he was gay before she realized he was in love with her.

Rory's fearlessness came through the most when a Woman named River Song entered into his life. She was a woman of mystery, not giving away too much, but also knowing too much. She both terrified and enthralled him, and he soon found himself trusting her, protecting and defending her. The three of them went through the trauma of losing the Doctor, and that bonded them together. It was Rory who went to River begging that she come help rescue his wife and child from the silence, but River couldn't. Rory was hurt and confused, and it was later that River explained that she was, in fact, Melody Pond, which translated into River Song. River Song, as a grown woman was, in fact, Rory and Amy's daughter. Even though she was taken as a baby, Rory was as devoted and protective a father as if he and Amy had raised her.

Rory's relationship with the Doctor was a bit more complicated. At first, Rory was jealous of Amy's relationship with the Doctor. He didn't understand the complexities, but he grew more comfortable with his presence. Rory trusted him with his life and the lives of Amy and River. He was quick to jump to the wrong conclusion when it came to Amy and her fondness for the Doctor. Rory learned quickly to go with the flow when it came to the Doctor. He found out there was nothing that he wouldn't do to protect Amy and Melody.
